Consumer Law Attorney
Mid-Missouri Legal Services (MMLS) seeks a full-time consumer law attorney in the Basic Needs Unit of its Columbia office. The attorney will handle cases involving collection defense, unlawful and/or predatory loans, auto fraud such as vehicle title issues and wrongful repossessions, expungements, unemployment benefit disputes, and other cases that will assist families in stabilizing their household’s income. The attorney will also provide legal representation and counseling in foreclosure prevention cases including negotiation, loan modifications, and affirmative civil lawsuits for predatory and/or unlawful activities.
Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and must be: 1) licensed to practice law in Missouri, or 2) be eligible to sit for the July 2023 bar examination in Missouri and successfully complete all bar license requirements by 09/30/2023.
The position requires excellent communication skills, analytical skills, work ethic, and a strong commitment to provide quality legal services to low-income and/or vulnerable populations. MMLS offers a professional and friendly environment. MMLS has an experienced Basic Needs Unit that fosters collegiality and provides guidance and mentoring to new staff attorneys.
MMLS provides an excellent benefit package, including fully paid health, dental, long term disability and life insurance premiums; generous holiday, health leave and vacation days; employer contributions to the MMLS 401(k) plan; and payment by MMLS of Bar dues, CLEs and malpractice insurance. MMLS is a non-profit legal aid program and its attorneys often qualify for multiple law school loan forgiveness and repayment assistance programs. Staff attorneys can select one day a week to work at home after six months of employment at MMLS.
Salary range begins at $55,000 with additional salary available based on experience.

Family Law Attorney
Mid-Missouri Legal Services has full-time opening for a staff attorney to provide representation in family law cases, including, adoption, divorce, custody, paternity and modification proceedings, as well as adult and child guardianship cases, and orders of protection.
